Running for Jacob marathon update

Due to injury I am sad to announce I am postponing my full marathon event until January 2012. The injury to my hip joint has put a hault on my training and I want to ensure I don't injure myself further by running a full so soon.

I am, however, running a half marathon in the Melbourne City 2 Sea: http://www.thecity2sea.com.au/ on Sunday November 13. I am looking for a full marathon to welcome 2012.

Despite moving back to Melbourne, I am very much committed to Running for Jacob and honouring a man so many loved and adored. The campaign allows family, friends and admirers to run any distance from any location. It seems fitting since Jake loved to travel and has family in the USA. Anyone who would like to be involved, please email me at laura.melvin@professionalpathways.co.nz

T-shirts are getting printed next week, so please have your orders to me by Monday at the latest. There is a $25 cost, including postage.

During my absence from blogging, I did a hike in Jacob's honour - 10, 064 feet above sea level up Mt Baldy, Los Angeles with Jacob's uncle, Keith Beck.

Impossible is Nothing

An impeding injury has put a hold on running - for now. I have been swimming, going to RPM, weights and as much cross - training as possible to maintain fitness. I am still committed to running this marathon in Jacob's honour.

Working on t-shirts at present, if anyone has contacts to donate 100 white tanks/shirts for printing, please contact me.

All those in training, good luck and please let me know t-shirt sizes and requests.

Not Fire, Not Ice

Week two of detox! Eliminating coffee, alcohol, white starch (high GI carbs), dairy and excess salt and sugar. Now that the headaches have subsided I have more energy and am feeling great. I may well keep this up!

Just to mix it up a little, I have joined CrossFit.
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide....it's different. It's hard. It's intense.

"Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports." ~Greg Glassman - Cross Fit.

New goal: to successfully do 10 chin ups.

Song of the week: It's been raining. A lot. Ben Harper - Not Fire, Not Ice

Please spread the word, my goal to successfully run the Auckland marathon is to honour Jake and to raise awareness and funds for the Jacob Beck Jaffurs Memorial Scholarship.

♥ Happy Running ♥

       Rain is refreshing,
      Wind braces us up,
      Snow is exhilarating,
There's really no such thing as bad weather,
Only different kinds of good weather."

Rain, hail or shine I will continue to honour Jake x
